Perfect Dress Styles for Different Occasions

Perfect Dress Styles for Different Occasions

Almost every day, we have events to attend and places to go. A common issue is deciding what to wear. Choosing dresses for different occasions is tedious since there are many unwritten social norms, dress codes, and practicality issues. If you’re among those who spend hours selecting your outfit, you’ve landed on the right page. Below, we’ve listed a few different occasions and the dress styles that are perfect for them.

1. Parties
Picking a dress style for a party can be tricky. After all, you don’t want to wear something that makes you stand out for the wrong reasons. When choosing an outfit, consider what kind of party you’ll be attending. Cocktail parties are generally informal, so semi-formal or dressy casuals are ideal. A fitting black dress is also perfect. But try not to go for outfits that are too short or bright. Dinner parties are more subjective, so you might have to ask the host about the theme or dress code.

2. Work events
While choosing the wrong dress styles for parties might make you feel embarrassed initially, it will soon be forgotten. But dressing inappropriately for a business meeting can cost you more than a few laughs. It’s best to keep it professional with a tailored suit, pants/knee-length skirt, or a black/navy dress. If the industry you work in is casual, dress down a little. Steer clear of distracting jewelry and jeans. Company parties and business events might need conservative clothing since it includes your superiors and sometimes even clients.

3. Religious events
Whether a baptism, bar mitzvah, or wedding, think of floral dress styles or suits. If there’s a reception immediately after, wear a cocktail dress, or get a pretty wrap or jacket for the temple or church. For religious events, low-cut, clingy, or short dresses may not be the right choice. A-line or column dresses create a chic look, and well-tailored formal suits are also an option. But elevate it with simple jewelry and nice shoes. For wakes or funerals, choose restrained and refined clothes and jewelry. Black is the standard choice, but dark neutrals like navy, brown, and forest green are acceptable.

4. Family get-togethers
When with family, it’s time to get comfortable. The socially accepted dress code is casual – sundresses, skirts, shorts, pants, etc. Wear whatever you feel comfortable in but ensure it suits you. Keep in mind the time and season, so you can have fun rather than finding a way to change your clothes. Dress styles that don’t suit most other situations, like jeans, short pants, and even yoga wear, all work for family situations. Even if it’s just family, remember to put some effort into showing your desire to be there.

5. Dates
This is a fun one. Theaters, ballets, and operas mean it’s time to flaunt. Throw on a cocktail dress, but you can also choose a pair of jeans and a dressy t-shirt. Ragged and laid-back dress styles aren’t the way to go on first dates. Attempt to create a decent first impression.
